Unlimited phone data
There is no total data cap for use on the device itself. Actual speeds depend on coverage, congestion and your device.
Separate hotspot cap
Tethering has its own total allowance for the plan, from 2 GB on the 3-day option up to 30 GB on the 31-day option.
No number, calls or SMS
This is a data-only eSIM. It issues no phone number and carries no cellular voice or SMS service in either direction.
Apps over data
Internet calling and messaging apps work normally over the data connection.

Can you receive texts on this eSIM?
Not included. This is a data-only eSIM with no SMS service in either direction, so it cannot receive one-time passcodes.

Starts on first network connection
The plan begins when the eSIM first connects to the network, not when you buy it. Install before you travel and enable it after you land.
No number, calls or SMS
This plan cannot receive one-time passcodes by SMS and cannot place or take ordinary phone calls. Keep your home SIM available if you need those.
Hotspot is capped
The hotspot allowance is separate from the unlimited phone data and is a total for the whole plan.
Install within 180 days
The eSIM must be installed within 180 days of purchase.
Compatible unlocked phone required
Confirm eSIM support and carrier-unlocked status before purchase.
Install on the final device
The QR code is for a single installation. It cannot be reinstalled or moved to another device, so do not delete the installed profile.

Use stable Wi-Fi and keep the eSIM installed. Reinstallation and moving it to another device are not supported. You have 180 days from purchase to install.
- Connect after arrival in Japan
Enable the eSIM, select it for mobile data and allow registration on KDDI. The plan starts at this first connection.
- Complete network setup
Enable Data Roaming if required. If automatic setup fails, set the APN to uad5gn.au-net.ne.jp with username au@uad5gn.au-net.ne.jp, password au and CHAP authentication.
A good fit when
- You want data that does not run out partway through the trip.
- You navigate, stream and browse on your phone and want no allowance to watch.
- You use WhatsApp, LINE, FaceTime or similar apps instead of a cellular number.
