Our rule: buy the least complex plan that covers the trip. Don't pay for a number you won't use — and don't assume a data-only plan makes you reachable.
Most Taro plans ride a network in the destination.
Roaming works, but it can send your traffic back through your home carrier before it reaches the internet. A destination network shortens that path and cuts roaming-specific handoffs.
Plans that use roaming say so on the plan page. Real performance still depends on coverage, congestion and your device.

This is a practical separation between travel contacts and your personal line — not anonymity, and not a security guarantee. The privacy policy and each plan's conditions govern.
Check six things before you pay.
- Your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
- The plan covers every country on the itinerary — on regional plans, read the coverage list country by country.
- Data allowance, speed policy and hotspot rules fit the trip.
- Which country the number comes from, and how long it lives.
- Incoming calls, outgoing calls and SMS — checked separately.
- When the plan activates and by when it must be installed.
Does every Taro plan include a number?
No. Most do — those can receive ordinary calls, and the four capability fields on each card say whether SMS and outgoing calls are included. Local data plans have no number and cost less.
Should I get a number or data only?
If everyone you need to reach uses the same apps, a Local data plan is simpler and cheaper. Pick a plan with a number when ordinary phone reachability matters — hotels, drivers, booking forms.
Can the travel number receive bank verification codes?
Do not count on it. Senders, short codes and plan-level SMS support all affect delivery. Keep your personal SIM available for verification codes.
Does a local number mean unlimited local calls?
No. Number country, call direction and included minutes are separate facts, listed per plan.
Is every Taro plan on a local network?
Most use a network in the destination. Regional plans roam between the countries they cover — the plan page lists the network in each one.
What happens when the days run out?
The plan ends. On plans with a number, the travel number expires too — later calls to it no longer reach you, and your personal number was never exposed.
