Thailand and Vietnam plans can both include more than mobile data, but their allowance clocks and communication capabilities are not interchangeable. The useful comparison is not “which provider is best”; it is which verified plan structure fits the trip.
1. Compare how the data allowance is counted
Thailand
Thailand comes in several durations, and the data structure differs by option: some state a fixed high-speed allowance, others are advertised as unlimited. The plan page spells out the fair-use limit and what happens after the allowance for the option you pick.
Vietnamobile
The Vietnamobile plan provides 5GB per Vietnam calendar day for 20 days. The allowance resets at midnight in Vietnam time (UTC+7), so a late first connection can produce a short first day. It is not a fresh rolling 24-hour allowance from the moment of use.
MobiFone Vietnam
The MobiFone plans use a total package: 30GB for 5 days or 50GB for 10 days. That total does not reset every day.
2. Separate the number, calls and SMS
The Thailand plans include a Thai number with free incoming calls. The longer plans also receive SMS.
The Vietnam plans include a Vietnamese number, incoming calls and SMS. Most of these plans receive calls and SMS rather than send them, and the MobiFone daily plan adds outgoing on its larger options. None of these numbers are meant for bank verification codes.
3. Match the plan to the itinerary
- Choose a calendar-day plan only if the midnight reset matches the arrival time and daily usage pattern.
- Choose a total-data plan when one shared allowance across the trip is easier to manage.
- Check the Thailand option's fair-use terms, validity start and per-plan call and SMS allowances on its plan page before choosing.
- Do not assume that a local number automatically includes outgoing calls, outgoing SMS or verification-code support.
